The South African Wine Safari Led by Agnes & Bill Kovacs 4/24/26
South African vineyards date back to the 1650s, when the Dutch East India Company planted the first grapes, with winemaking flourishing by the late 18th century before hitting crises like phylloxera and unfavorable British tariffs. A renaissance began in the 1990s after the end of Apartheid, leading to a focus on quality, innovation, and the development of internationally recognized wine regions. The classification system is as complex as France.
The signature white wine is Chenin Blanc (imported from Europe but often called Steen in South Africa) and Pinotage, South Africa’s own hybrid crossing of Pinot Noir and Cinsaut.
Join us for a wine tasting of these two varieties at 7:30 PM on Friday, April 24th at our house complemented with some South African style goat cheese. Just to avoid any confusion, this is a wine tasting, not a dinner.
Number of guests (attendees): 8
Value per guest: 50
